De belles notes pour Selvapiana

Les nouveaux millésimes Chianti Rufina 2010 et Chianti Rufina Riserva Bucerchiale 2009 font parler d’eux …

Selvapiana

By Ian D’Agata

2010 Selvapiana Chianti Rufina

($17) Ruby-red. Redcurrant, plum and cinnamon on the fruity nose. Fresh and juicy, with ripe red cherry and spicy raspberry flavors given clarity and cut by lovely mineral tang. This outstanding everyday Chianti finishes smooth and long. 90

2009 Selvapiana Chianti Rufina Riserva Bucerchiale

($30) (14.5% alcohol): Medium saturated red. Red plum, redcurrant, tobacco, forest floor and potpourri spices on the sexy, very complex nose. Dense, sweet, suave and deep, with insidious intensity to the multilayered flavors of blueberry, tobacco leaf and loam. Wonderfully silky and sweet Chianti, finishing with fine-grained tannins and lingering ripe red cherry and spice flavors. The 2009 vintage doesn’t get any better than this. An outstanding wine, and everything a Chianti ought to be. 95

2009 Selvapiana Fornace Toscana Rosso

($35) Good deep red-ruby. Almost grapey dark berry aroma complicated by roast coffee and sweet oak. Creamy-sweet, rich and pliant on the palate, with herbal red berry and cocoa flavors. Finishes with a sweet pipe tobacco nuance and mounting tannins. 88

2004 Selvapiana Vin Santo del Chianti Rufina (500 ml)

($40) Bright, medium yellow-gold. Musky, penetrating aromas of baked apple, butterscotch, sweet spices, honey and fig, with tropical fruit notes adding complexity. Fairly fat and chewy, but with excellent lift to its exotic, sweet, rich flavors of peach, brown butter, caramel, honey and baking spices. This silky, lush wine finishes ripe, thick and long. Excellent concentration and depth for what is one of the best Vin Santos from Selvapiana in memory. 94
