The Château

Château Fourcas Hosten is located in the heart of the village of Listrac-Médoc, which also gave its name to the Médoc’s youngest communal appellation, created in 1957.

Rising upto 43 metres, between the estuary and the ocean, the village of Listrac is also known as the “roof of the Médoc”. The 3-hectare park, which includes several hundred-year-old trees, and the surrounding woodland provide the area with a high level of biodiversity.

In this privileged environment, the Fourcas Hosten vineyard is divided between the Listrac plain, with its clay-limestone soil, and the Pyrenean gravel of the Fourcas plateau. A study of the soils, leading to precise mapping, has enabled us to adapt the grape varieties to each parcel as closely as possible. Merlot and Cabernet Franc are concentrated on the clayey limestone, while the gravelly soils are home to Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot.

White grapes of Sauvignon Blanc, Gris and Sémillon cultivated in organic viticulture since the beginning complete the wine range.

Since 2006, alongside Laurent and Renaud Momméja, the estate’s team has been managing the vineyards and wine production to bring out the best in the terroir. The Domaine is committed to a global environmental approach and is certified in organic viticulture.

Vineyard

To take advante of the potential of the clay-limestone terroir and return to the historical roots of Listrac white wines, Sauvignon Blanc and Gris were planted from 2012.

Since 2014, all new black grapes plantings have been carried out at 10,000 vines per hectare. This increased competition means that each vine draws its resources more deeply to feed a smaller number of bunches. As a result, the bunches become more concentrated and develop more anthocyanins, tannins and aromas.

The estate’s two main terroirs – clay-limestone and Pyrenean gravel – complement each other very well.

Conserving bio-diversity, enriching the soil with natural materials such as barley and vetch, planting hedges and recycling grape stalks, skins and seeds ensure a balanced eco-system.

Since 2020, 100% of the vineyard has been farmed organically and is ECOCERT certified.
