Vin Chaud – Mulled Wine

To keep warm in the chilly Rufina hills of Tuscany, there is nothing like mulled wine! Red wine made from the mighty Sangiovese grape is actually an ideal wine for making this mulled wine due to the acidity and flavour profile of the wine that matches the Christmas spices in the drink. Even better with Biscotti!


  • 0,75 lt Chianti Rufina 2019
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 125 g of cane sugar
  • 3 cloves
  • 1/2 organic orange
  • 1 zest organic lemon
  • 1 zest organic orange
  • 1 star anise
  • 1 tsp teaspoon ginger powder
  • 1 tsp teaspoon grated nutmeg


Pour wine into a casserole and add citrus zest, sugar and spices.

Letting marinate for at least 6 hours (12 hours is even better).

Put pot on stove and set to high heat and boil, then turn down heat and simmer for 5 minutes, then turn off the heat and leave the infusion for another 5 minutes.

Filter and serve well hot with garnishes of orange wheel and cinnamon stick.
