{"id":3323,"date":"2019-07-18T09:44:59","date_gmt":"2019-07-18T08:44:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/genuinewines.com\/en\/?p=3323"},"modified":"2021-03-25T17:31:31","modified_gmt":"2021-03-25T16:31:31","slug":"visiting-denavolo-july-2019","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/genuinewines.com\/en\/blog\/visiting-denavolo-july-2019\/","title":{"rendered":"Visiting Denavolo &#8211; July 2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure style=\"width: 564px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"mcnImage\" src=\"https:\/\/gallery.mailchimp.com\/8cc45cf08bf7beaf6f607b870\/images\/c45b39d2-415f-4d9d-8888-dd4c27a45856.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"564\" height=\"3200\" align=\"center\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">On the heights of Campo Rotonde, overlooking the valley<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h1 class=\"null\">Denavolo:\u00a0Tour of the vines<\/h1>\n<p>4 July, 2019<\/p>\n<p>After my visit to Tunia in Tuscany, I continued on my way to northern Italy.<br \/>\nNext destination: <a href=\"http:\/\/genuinewines.com\/en\/domaines\/denavolo-emilie-romagneorange-wines\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Denavolo at Giulio Armani&#8217;s<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>We took\u00a0advantage of the morning freshness to visit the vines.\u00a0Giulio, always optimistic, is looking forward to this upcoming vintage.<\/p>\n<p>Let&#8217;s go back a little bit to review the strong climatic moments of this vintage in the making&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Autumn was normal with a wet and cool November and December. Then, a mild winter arrived. Indeed, even though January was rather cold, the following months had temperatures above the seasonal normals. \u00a0These very dry months delayed the budburst which occurred in mid-April.<\/p>\n<p>With April and May came back the cold and humidity: it was 4\u00b0C on May 5th! During this period, the vines grew very slowly.<\/p>\n<p>Since June, temperatures have increased and it has been very hot since then, as\u00a0normal for summer here in Emilia Romagna.<\/p>\n<p>The growth of the vine has been completely unblocked and the vines are very beautiful, green, leafy with a nice load of grapes. All the water that fell in Spring contributed to\u00a0this growth and a good nourishment for\u00a0the bunches that are now formed.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"mcnImage\" src=\"https:\/\/gallery.mailchimp.com\/8cc45cf08bf7beaf6f607b870\/images\/c003fc03-eaf4-4673-aa51-865d3aa68178.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"264\" \/>\u00a0 \u00a0<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"mcnImage\" src=\"https:\/\/gallery.mailchimp.com\/8cc45cf08bf7beaf6f607b870\/_compresseds\/7e07c48b-133e-47c4-a504-02967d3cfb63.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"264\" \/><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div><em>Photo left : state of vines 30th April 2019<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Photo right : state of vines 3 July 2019<\/em><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<p><strong>New projets at Denavolo<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Until now, the estate measured 5.5 ha with\u00a0:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>2.5 ha in D\u00e9b\u00e9,\u00a0old vines planted in 1975<\/li>\n<li>3 ha of young vines, planted in 2008 and 2009 on Cassinera and Campo Rotonde.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Since 2018, it has grown to 7 ha with:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>1 ha of Ortrugo in tenant farming. The plot is located on the other side of the Trebbia River, at a slightly lower altitude (about 250 metres), on soil very similar to the other Denavolo plots. The soil is calcareous, well draining and with shallow water sources allowing a good supply of nutrients to the vines. Ortrugo is not very aromatic but brings a beautiful acidity.<\/li>\n<li>0.5 ha on the D\u00e9b\u00e9 plot, planted with Ortrugo and Malvasia di Candia Aromatica.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"mcnImage\" src=\"https:\/\/gallery.mailchimp.com\/8cc45cf08bf7beaf6f607b870\/images\/a06c45bc-7350-4589-bc5a-7af8b7985191.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"264\" \/>\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"mcnImage\" src=\"https:\/\/gallery.mailchimp.com\/8cc45cf08bf7beaf6f607b870\/images\/885e6734-4ba6-4833-85d2-b21d76dbf547.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"264\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>New parcel, old vine Ortrugo, lieu-dit Caverzago\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>New Cuv\u00e9e: Cenaghi 2018<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The estate also produces a new wine since 2018, <strong>Cenaghi in the lieu-dit of Caverzago in the municipality of Travo.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The wine is made from a selection of parcels from the top of the Campo Rotonde hillside. There are aromatic herbal notes on the palate.<br \/>\nWe can smell some tannins, and the length in the mouth is more important than in the 2016 vintage.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<hr \/>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"mcnImage\" src=\"https:\/\/gallery.mailchimp.com\/8cc45cf08bf7beaf6f607b870\/images\/065f6165-497e-463a-ae88-903e76be36a4.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"264\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>CENAGHI 2018\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\nWe have started to talk to you about it and to make you taste this new cuv\u00e9e on the fairs at the beginning of the year! \u00a0Since the end of May, this small production has been in bottle.<br \/>\nThe wine comes from the vines planted on the limestone, stony and well-draining soils of Campo Rotonde at an altitude of 500 metres.<br \/>\nThe five grape varieties: Ortrugo, Santa Maria and Marsanne are found in equal proportions of about 25% with 20% Sauvignon Blanc and a small proportion of Malvasia di Candia aromatica (5%). Santa Maria is an old grape variety from this region of Colli PIacentini, it has a medium structure, is a little more aromatic than Ortrugo but less aromatic than Malvasia di Candia Aromatica. It brings roundness and produces a lot of sugar. It is generally the grape variety used to produce the region&#8217;s Vin Santo.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tasting: <\/strong>This wine needs a bit of time to open.<br \/>\nOn the nose, notes of watermelon, melon, aromatic herbs.<br \/>\nSoft on the palate, yet a little more tannic than Catavela, pleasant bitterness on the finish.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<\/div>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"mcnImage\" src=\"https:\/\/gallery.mailchimp.com\/8cc45cf08bf7beaf6f607b870\/images\/e2e4d049-6833-4d6e-af83-1bb5b6382357.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"264\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Dinavolino 2018<\/strong> &#8211; <em>old vines of D\u00e9b\u00e9 on the bottom of the hillside parcel<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The wine is still not yet bottled. \u00a0The bottling must be happening very soon&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Aromatic wine, with notes of bee&#8217;s wax, pine, cedar. Good intensity<br \/>\nIn the mouth, light and pleasant tannins, wine with a beautiful length and presence.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"mcnImage\" src=\"https:\/\/gallery.mailchimp.com\/8cc45cf08bf7beaf6f607b870\/images\/c5cac832-3aca-444f-97de-80b745941929.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"264\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Dinavolo 2016<\/strong> &#8211; <em>old vines of D\u00e9b\u00e9, on the top of the hillside parcel<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Nose of hazelnuts typical of Dinavolo, Notes of cedars, beeswax, quince, orange peels, very intense.<br \/>\nGood concentration of soft tannins,<br \/>\nMouth is long and rich with flavours of citrus fruits, cedar, pine, resin.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; Denavolo:\u00a0Tour of the vines 4 July, 2019 After my visit to Tunia in Tuscany, I continued on my way to northern Italy.
