Arianna Occhipinti: powerful indigenous Sicilian varietals with restraint and elegance

The estate

The estate is recent, Arianna settled in 2004, at the age of 24.  Her parents are not winegrowers but she discovered the passion for wine by working at her uncle Giusto Occhipinti’s estate COS.
Her estate is located at the foot of the Iblei Mountains in C. da Fossa di Lupo near Vittoria in south-eastern Sicily. When she talks about her adventure, Arianna says that her greatest challenge is to understand the needs of her land, poor and dry without disturbing it or changing its appearance, trying to perceive the right balance so that the precision, rigour and harmony of the Nero d’Avola as well as the freshness and elegance of the Frappato can be expressed. The estate’s vines are organically grown, there are 8 hectares for Nero d’Avola and Frappato and 1 ha for white grape varieties: Albanello, Carricante and Zibbibo.
The particularity of the climate is a warm sun and cool temperatures at night, the soils are sandy and rich in iron. The vineyard is managed organically, yields are low. The work in the cellar is meticulous.
