Pinot Noir

Alsacian wine tasting in Paris

On Monday 21st of May, we were in Paris – Pavillon Gabriel for a big event : the Great Alsacian wine tasting !

Around 50 producers were there in order to present one of their wines, one per producer only, selected by the CIVA.

The domaine Klein aux vieux Remparts was presenting its Pinot Noir Vieilles Vignes 2003, very very low yield for this Pinot Noir (20 to 25 hl/ha), cultivated on a granitic soil, East exposure.

The wine has been aged 3 years and a half in barrel ! Very fine and subtile, a wine with cherry flavors, closed to some côtes du Nuit Burgundy wine, blind tasting would have been difficult ! Still fresh even if it was made in 2003- for sure the balance was possible thanks to the old vines, their roots can pick up deeply all what the plant needs even under extreme climate.
