Vin Jaune

Jura wines tasting in New York city

Now the habits is on with a Jura wine tasting every year in New York city ! This year it was in June, a group with winemakers came to show their wines and let them taste.

We were with Pierre Rolet there too ! We saw lots of people, passioned with wines from Jura, and it seems that the Vin Jaune has no secrets for any New Yorkers now !

We have presented a wide range of wines all made in the estate from the vineyard, starting with the Crémant, actually the range is full, since the sparkling Rosé has a new shape, showing its beautiful colour. We had three Chardonnay coming from Arbois, Côtes du Jura and Etoile, a very nice tasting actually, bringing the importance of the Terroir, showing that depending on the soil where the Chardonnay grows the wine will be different even if the winemaking is close ! Usually Chardonnay in Arbois, will be more fruity instead of in l’Etoile, the minerality will be dominant. We of course brought some rosé and reds : Trousseau, full of fruits in mouth and the Poulsard becoming famous in NYC. To finish, both emblematic Vin Jaune and Vin de Paille !

It was a really nice tasting in a very nice place … see you next year, same place ! …

The complexe Chardonnay from Etoile and Arbois, the Trousseau, pleasant, rich and fruity, the sparkling wines, all elegant and sophisticated, but moreover the plaisant, riche Vins de Paille, real nectar for desert and the Vin Jaune 2001, with gold medal, emblematic wine from the appellation, led passionned people stopped by the table.

Rolet’s Vin Jaune at the Frenchlaundry

The magazine Tasted drew a very nice article about wines from Rolet Père et Fils in Jura. The wine is tasted with gougère made by the chef Thomas Keller in Yountville – Napa Valley – in the prestigious restaurant The French Laundy ***.

” A truly great and underrated wines style that should get more attention. It pairs especially well with cheese such as Comté or Gruyère, it has the tanginess of a great Sherry, yet with some more freshness and a lot of complexity. Enjoy at around 14°C / 58°F”.
