Why did I choose Mas Foulaquier ?
Foulaquier is a magical kind of place, located in the middle of Mediterraneen scrubland at the foot of the Pic St loup, a pebbly Piemont, South of the Cévennes. It is a region noted for its range of temperatures, punctuated by the song of cicadas during the day.
Two enthusiasts work in their vineyard which comprises two distincts soils :
- Foulaquier, a large plot of 8 hecatares with a South South-West exposure and a chalky soil where typical local varieties can flourish : Grenache and Syrah.
- Tonillières, a plot of 3 hectares with North-Est exposure, shallow chalky soil with some clay, a nearly level and friable bed-rock, where there are some old Carignan, Grenache and Syrah vines.
Pierre Jequier and Blandine Chauchat work in the vineyard respecting nature, maintaining the vines with biodynamic preparations following the biodynamic rythms – in the cellar, fermentation is spontaneous – native yeasts – with no additional chemical products.
Biodynamic certified estate.
